Step 5 - Understand why having control over your emotions is important

If you're not in control of your emotions, they can bring out the worst in you. You might say or do things impulsively that you'll later regret. Remember that every action has consequences.

How does this show up in dating?

During an argument with your partner, you might respond to feeling hurt by saying something mean or attacking their character—damage that can be irreparable. Words and actions carry weight that people don't forget. Even worse, if anger leads to throwing objects, you're not only making your partner fear for their safety but also risking legal consequences. These emotional outbursts create lasting resentment that can destroy relationships. Beyond arguments, poor emotional control can lead to problematic behaviors like making excessive phone calls, overreacting to minor issues, and other concerning actions.
